Sophomore running back Matt Jones scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and the host Hawks cruised to an easy win in Friday's Kickoff Classic.
Jones began the scoring with a 40-yard touchdown reception from Josh Grady on the third play of the game. Jones made it 14-0 with a 30-yard scoring run at the 3:03 mark of the first and later went in from 8 yards to up Armwood's lead to 21-0 with 14 seconds left in the opening quarter.
Jones totaled 95 yards of offense (60 receiving, 35 rushing) in one half.
Grady, who also played only in the first half, led the Hawks to touchdowns on four of his six drives. He finished 12-for-17 for 197 yards and two touchdowns. Grady, who transferred from Freedom, capped the first-half scoring when he hit Deandre Fulton with a 16-yard pass 4:14 before halftime.
The Hawks' defense dominated in the first half, holding Middleton to negative-23 yards of total offense and two first downs - one of which came by way of a penalty.
