SEFFNER — Playoff-bound Armwood (10-0) cruised by a tired and undermanned Strawberry Crest squad.
Strawberry Crest played two quarters Monday night while being eliminated in a Class 7A-District 8 tiebreaker, and it showed.
Armwood jumped on the Chargers early, scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter. Its defense was stifling, holding the Chargers to minus-15 yards in the first half and didn’t allow a first down until the final quarter.
Noah Johnson threw for 121 yards and two TDs while adding a rushing TD in limited playing time.
Strawberry Crest (6-4) finished with its first winning season in school history. Coach John Kelly encouraged his team after the game. “We are going to continue to work straight through to next year.”
Armwood coach Sean Callahan was ready to put the undefeated regular season behind and focus on its first-round playoff opponent Venice, which it hosts Friday night.
“We’re going to play a very good team next week. They’re tough. It’s a whole new season now. That’s what we’re built for. We are as ready as we’re going to be,” Callahan said.
