Armwood 32, Blake 6

SEFFNER — Playing with a new quarterback and perhaps with an eye on next week’s matchup against Hilsborough, Armwood struggled early against Blake before pulling away.

The Yellow Jackets (0-2) opened impressively, marching down the field uninterrupted on their first drive to take a surprising lead on the Hawks (2-0) and kept the game close through halftime. But Armwood’s defense excelled in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.

“We were a little bit flat and that’s what happened,” Armwood coach Sean Callahan said. “That’s the mark of a young and immature team.”

The Hawks’ defense recorded two safeties and created turnovers on three consecutive Blake possessions in the third quarter.

New Armwood quarterback Tyler Scott was 6-for-19 for 97 yards in his first career start. He also threw an interception.
