NEW PORT RICHEY — The Sharks are back on track. Anclote struggled with penalties, racking up 19 for 158 yards, but was able to pull out a sloppy victory against Ridgewood (0-4, 0-1 Class 5A-District 7) Friday night.
Despite the penalties, Anclote (1-3, 1-0) drove down the field, with quarterback Brandon Vinkler (11 of 17, 113 yards) hitting Willie Barrett for a 27-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter for the first score of the game.
Anclote came out of halftime running Barrett (16 carries, 125 yards). The Sharks got a little tricky with a pass on a fake punt from Tim Shumate to Jamaree Reid for a 40-yard touchdown and added a 2-point conversion from kicker CJ Peppe to Andrew Janus.
The Sharks capped the scoring on a 9-yard run by Trent Crawford (10 carries, 70 yards).
Anclote had a safety in the third quarter for a 17-0 lead heading into the final quarter.
Anclote plays host to Fivay on Friday, while Ridgewood is home against Pasco County’s top-ranked team, Sunlake.
