The road to a return to the Class 2A girls basketball state semifinals is still a long one for Academy at the Lakes.
Tuesday night was the beginning of that postseason journey, as AATL dominated winless Tampa Bay Christian 64-2 in a Class 2A-District 8 semifinal.
The Wildcats will meet Cambridge, which defeated Hernando Christian 27-18 in the other semifinal, for the crown.
"What I was looking for was for us to do the things we've practiced on and do them right," AATL coach Karim Nohra said. "It may not matter in this game, but it may matter in the next one or the one after that. That's what I preached at the beginning of the game and at halftime."
AATL (21-2) played most of its reserves in the second half, after the team went into halftime with a 42-0 lead.
Tatiana Manuel scored 22 points and Timechia Cohen chipped in 14. Manuel is 12 points from reaching 1,000 for her career.
"He's a very good coach," Manuel said of Nohra. "He's taught me a lot of things I didn't know. Considering the fact that I'm a senior, he's taught me a lot that I should've known. I'm happy that he's brought us to this point."
In the first game, Natalie Fernandez and Lilly Dunaj led Cambridge (12-10) with six points apiece.
