NEW PORT RICHEY On a night when lightning lit up the sky, the River Ridge offense failed to light up the scoreboard, as the Royal Knights fell to Lecanto.
Lecanto scored what proved to be the winning touchdown early in the fourth quarter, as Tim Mobley scored on a 6-yard touchdown run.
Heading into the game, River Ridge coach Tim Stevens was optimistic his team would improve on last year's 1-9 record.
"These kids have worked harder here than any time in my fifteen years of coaching. They busted their tails during the pre-season and we expect to match up well against Lecanto," said Stevens.
Unfortunately, the Royal Knights were charged with 11 penalties, including several that nullified a long run or a completed pass. Their lone score was a 47-yard field-goal by junior kicker Jack Paris.
The Royal Knights had a chance to add to their lead in the third quarter, as a pair of 12-yard runs by the Stavros Arianas and Mario Stewart and a 38-yard reception by Alex Bullock from Kenny Toce moved them to the Panthers 3 yard-line. But After two running plays failed to put the ball in the end zone, Toce's floating pass into the end zone was intercepted.
