It will be a milestone night for Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon.

In what’s becoming a team tradition of unique promotional giveaways, the first 10,000 fans at tonight’s game against the New York Yankees will take home a Maddon gnome.

“I might shed a tear. … To be the first manager in the world of gnomedom is truly an honor,” Maddon posted on his Twitter account Tuesday.

He also tweeted a photo of the gnome, which features Maddon’s unmistakable glasses and a pointed hat.

Last season, the Rays created an Internet sensation with its ZimBear giveaway. The teddy bear featuring the face of Rays senior baseball advisor Don Zimmer ended up listed on eBay for as much as $79.99.

Mixed around more typical bobbleheads and player figurines, other creative Rays giveaways have included league championship ring replicas, Maddon eyeglasses, the Carlos Pena toothbrush holder and the Jeff Niemann growth chart.

First pitch at Tropicana Field is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. Gates open at 5:40 p.m.
