Tampa Bay Lightning season schedule released

TAMPA -

The Lightning officially announced their abbreviated 48-game schedule on Saturday after the new collective bargaining agreement was ratified by both the NHL and NHL Player's Association and the memorandum of understanding was signed by both sides.

Tampa Bay opens the season on Saturday (Jan. 19) with five of the first seven games at home and closes out with a three-game homestand that concludes on Apr. 27.

The Lightning will open the season against division rival Washington and close it out at home against in-state rival Florida. In between the Lightning will face two Southeast Division opponents a total of five times (Carolina and Florida) and two division opponents four times (Washington and Winnipeg) while playing three games each against the remaining 10 Eastern Conference teams.

After opening the season at home against the Capitals, Tampa Bay will head on the road for back-to-back games at New York Islanders and Carolina on Jan. 21-22 before returning home for a five-game homestand from Jan. 25 to Feb. 2 that includes back-to-back games Feb. 1-2 against Winnipeg and New York Rangers, respectfully. In total Tampa Bay will play eight sets of back-to-back games, seven of those sets are on the road.

Tampa Bay is scheduled to open training camp on Sunday at The Forum with an autograph session with the players from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by a public practice from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.
