TAMPA — Lightning fans can escape the heat for a few days while checking out some of the team’s top young players when prospect camp opens at the Ice Sports Forum in Brandon.
Tampa Bay will hold a five-day development camp through Sunday, with most of the organization’s top players in town to take part, including all seven selections from the 2014 draft, including 19th overall pick Anthony DeAngelo.
In addition, 2013 top pick Jonathan Drouin and goaltenders Andrei Vasilevskiy, Kristers Gudlevskis and Adam Wilcox will be in attendance.
Center Cedric Paquette, who finished the season with the Lightning, was a late scratch from the roster because of illness, leaving 30 players in camp. Defenseman Slater Koekkoek, the 10th overall pick in 2012, will be limited to non-contact drills after having shoulder surgery at the end of his season with Windsor. Matthew Peca will be limited to off-ice activities.
While most of the camp will focus on skating and skill development, the final two days will feature a 3-on-3 tournament, with the final taking place Sunday morning. The players will hit the ice for the first time this morning.
