Lightning goaltender Ben Bishop will undergo surgery today at the Cleveland Clinic to repair a torn ligament in his right wrist.

A team spokesman said the extent of the injury and subsequent recovery period will not be determined until the procedure is complete, though Bishop said last week he expected to need 3-4 months to recover but should be ready for the start of training camp in September.

Bishop, a finalist for the Vezina Trophy as the top goaltender in the league, initially injured the wrist during warm-ups on Jan. 5 in Edmonton and played the remainder of the regular season with a hard brace while setting a franchise record with 37 victories. He also missed the final three games of the regular season as well as the playoff series against Montreal with a dislocated left elbow suffered while landing heavily on his arm April 8 during the first period against Toronto.
