The USF Bulls did not make it to a bowl game this season, but their mascot Rocky the Bull won its national championship by topping 15 other mascots in the Capitol One Mascot Challenge.

The results were announced at halftime of the bowl game today between Wisconsin and South Carolina. The Gamecocks won 34-24.

The contest had fans click “vote now” to earn a point, complete weekly 25-point challenges or upload photos or videos of themselves doing a cheer in public to accumulate points for their mascot. Voting in the contest closed Dec. 16.

Capitol One said the winning school will get a $20,000 scholarship toward its mascot program. And the other participating schools will get $5,000 for their programs.

The Texas Tech Raider “Wreck ‘Em” Red, last year’s champ, reached the finals against Rocky but lost.

This year’s write-in winner was Buzz from Georgia Tech.
