San Francisco 49ers senior offensive assistant Paul Wulff, the former head coach at Washington State, is on the verge of becoming the University of South Florida’s offensive coordinator, according to reports in California.

There’s nothing official from USF, which said it won’t comment on staff vacancies until they are filled. Wulff apparently will join USF when the 49ers’ season is done. San Francisco plays at Carolina on Sunday in an NFC divisional playoff game.

Niners coach Jim Harbaugh is the mentor of USF coach Willie Taggart.

Wulff, 46, was 9-40 from 2008 to 2011 at Washington State, his alma mater. Previously, Wulff was 53-40 at Eastern Washington, including three Division I-AA playoff berths.
