GAINESVILLE - Florida has extended the contract of football coach Will Muschamp an additional year, with the deal now going through the 2016 season.
The Gators finished 7-6 last season in his first year as head coach but this month finished with the nation's No. 3 recruiting class, according to Rivals.com, and during the recent junior day event grabbed enough early commitments to put them in the running of the top class next February.
"Coach Muschamp's original contract was for five years with an option year. (The University Athletic Association) exercised that option year in January and he now has five years remaining on his current contract," UF spokesman Steve McClain said.
Muschamp's original deal was for five years and worth $13.75 million. There is no raise in the deal.
Florida opens spring practice on March 14.
