GAINESVILLE -

Sophomore forward Alex Tyus has decided to remain with the University of Florida men's basketball team, the school announced on Tuesday.

"It's great to know that his heart is here at the University of Florida," Gators head coach Billy Donovan said in a news release. "I know he will work hard, and I look forward to helping him continue to grow and develop as a person and as a player."

Tyus, who is from St. Louis, originally announced his intentions to transfer April 17.

"The University of Florida is where I want to be," Tyus said in the release. "I truly feel this is the best place for me to continue to grow and improve and I look forward to this upcoming season."

Tyus was the Gators' second-leading scorer behind Nick Calathes last season, averaging 12.5 points per game. Tyus led Florida in rebounding at 6.2 boards per game, and in blocked shots with 28. He finished tied for the team lead in double-doubles with five.
