Coral Gables - Malcolm Grant posted a game-high 23 points to lead the Miami-Florida Hurricanes to an 85-62 win over the Florida Atlantic Owls in the opening round of the NIT at the BankUnited Center.

Durand Scott added 19 points in the win for Miami (20-14), which also got a double-double of 14 points and 20 rebounds from Reggie Johnson.

Greg Gantt scored 17 points to pace FAU (21-11) in the losing effort, while Dennis Mavin and Raymond Taylor contributed 15 and 10 points, respectively.

The Owls shot at a respectable 48.0 percent clip over the opening 20 minutes, but they found themselves trailing by a 39-28 margin heading into the break due to a 63.0 percent effort from the field by the Hurricanes.

In the second half, the Hurricanes hit 56.5 percent of their attempts from the floor and knocked down 17-of-22 from the foul line en route to the 23-point victory.

The second-seeded Hurricanes advance to the second round to face third-seeded Missouri State.
