Dungy’s son to transfer from Oregon to USF

Published:

Former Plant High wide receiver Eric Dungy, son of former Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Tony Dungy, is transferring from Oregon to play for the University of South Florida, Plant coach Robert Weiner confirmed Thursday.

Weiner called it a “great fit’’ for the younger Dungy, who was a key player on Plant’s 2009 state championship team.

Dungy, 6-foot-1, 182 pounds, is scheduled to graduate from Oregon after four years at the school.

With a degree in hand, he is eligible to play for USF immediately in the fall.

At Oregon, Dungy caught seven passes for 75 yards and one touchdown in his career.

Tony Dungy was brought in by former USF athletic director Doug Woolard to participate in the interview process that brought coach Willie Taggart to the Bulls last year.
