NEW YORK – A former NFL player has been arrested on charges he hit his wife and shoved her from a moving car in New York City.

Luke Petitgout reported to a Manhattan police precinct today in connection with the Friday incident.

Police say he struck his wife with her pocketbook and then tossed her from the vehicle.

His wife took a taxi to a police station where she filed a report. He was arrested on an assault charge and was awaiting arraignment.

Petitgout was in police custody and it was not clear if he had a lawyer.

The offensive tackle retired from the NFL in 2007 after one season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He spent eight seasons with the New York Giants.
