Tweet of the Day

Bucs GM Mark Dominik says the club is basically finished with this year's free agent market. Not sure Tampa Bay ever got started.

Standout player

PK Josh Jasper has been kicking balls wide and clanging them off goalposts all camp long. That didn't change Thursday during the first practice devoted specifically to special teams. Jasper, a two-time Class 5A Mr. Football for the state of Tennessee, missed three more field-goal tries and continued to look nothing like the player who was good on a record 83.9-percent of his field goals tries while at LSU.

Get to know …

Ed Gant

Pos.: Wide receiver

Ht.: 6-3

Wt.: 200

School: North Alabama

Acquired: Signed as a free agent in 2010

Need to know: Gant is a Cape Coral product who spent the 2009 season the Arizona Cardinals practice squad. … Also played safety and returned kicks in college. … Brother of former Bucs C Phillip Buchanon. … Was suspended for first four games of 2010 season for violating league's steroids policy. … Was considered a candidate for the fourth receiver spot with the Cardinals as a rookie before being suspended. "He was somewhere working (this offseason) and it's really paying off for him," Bucs coach Raheem Morris said of Gant. "He's going to make it tough for some people."

Quote of the day

"The way that knee has healed is nothing short of miraculous. He's seven months out (from surgery) now and he's pretty much full speed and full strength."

Eric Yarber

Bucs receivers coach, on WR Arrelious Benn's recovery from season-ending knee surgery.

Comment from

"Where do you think depth is needed so badly that the team would want to go out and more than likely over pay a 30 year old free agent to come in and play? … Because of the injuries last year many young players got experience with the bucs and the knowledge of the playbook. a truncated off season makes it even riskier to sign a high priced (read over-paid) FA to come in and try to learn on the fly."
