— As expected, quarterbacks coach Marcus Arroyo handled the bulk of the play-calling duties for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense during their 24-10 loss to Washington at Raymond James Stadium on Thursday night.

It may not be the last time Arroyo is charged with those duties.

Offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford continues to recover from an unspecified medical procedure performed this week and his status for the Bucs regular-season opener Sept. 7 against Carolina remains uncertain.

“Jeff is improving daily,’’ Bucs coach Lovie Smith said. “I had a chance to talk to him about an hour before the game. We’d like to have him out there but he has time. He’s making progress, so we’ll see how it goes.’’
