TAMPA – The Tampa Bay Buccaneers began the process of trimming their roster to the 75-man limit on Monday by cutting eight players and placing two on injured reserve.

Cornerback Anthony Gaitor and running back Michael Smith were both placed on injured reserve with a torn ACL and torn foot ligaments, respectively, meaning they are done for the 2013 season.

Waived Monday by the Bucs were wide receiver Carlton Mitchell, defensive end Ernest Owusu, quarterback Adam Weber and defensive end Markus White. Receiver Derek Hagan, fullback Spencer Larsen and safety Troy Nolan were released.

The Bucs also announced on Monday the signing of tight end Mike Shanahan, a University of Pittsburgh product who came to the NFL as an undrafted free agent and has spent the preseason so far with the New York Jets.

The Bucs have until 4 p.m. on Tuesday to trim their roster to 75 players.
