The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ training camp workout today, originally scheduled as a closed practice, will be open to the fans. It begins at 1 p.m. at One Buc Place and offers young fans yet another chance for a special encounter with players.

Reviving a tradition he started when he was coach of the Chicago Bears, new Bucs coach Lovie Smith is allowing children ages 12 or younger who want autographs to line up on the field after practice and interact with Bucs players.

“The thought process is that there are a lot of people out there, and yes ... they would like to sign every (football), but you can’t,’’ Smith said. “So who has priority? It will always be our younger fans.

“And this gives them a chance also to get on the field and get up close and personal with the players. Again you would like to get one for everyone. You can’t, but we want to get everyone we can.”
