Bucs Hot Reads: Time to adjust Sapp’s projection?

Did you know?

Back in the day, former Bucs great Warren Sapp used to say of the Tampa Bay defense, “Give us 17 points and we’ll do the rest.’’ From the looks of things, it could be that way again this year. Through five weeks, the Bucs are allowing 17.5 points per game, which is the eighth-fewest in the league and the fourth-fewest in the NFC. Tampa Bay’s offense, however, is averaging 11 points per game.

By the numbers

One of the real keys to the Bucs’ defensive success so far this year has been their play inside the red zone. Tampa Bay has allowed only four touchdowns in 14 red zone situations for a 28.6 touchdown percentage that ranks No. 2 in the league behind unbeaten Kansas City (25.0).

Quote of the day

“Boise was awesome. They’ve got a new facility over there. They’re spoiling those guys, but they deserve it.’’

Bucs second-year RB Doug Martin, who returned to the Boise State campus during the bye week

Stat of the day

The Bucs have been outscored 31-10 in the second half this season.
