Bucs Hot Reads: Cold, hard truth is ice 'Didn't feel too bad'

— The Ice Bucket Challenge arrived at One Buc Place in a big way on the final afternoon of training camp.

Coach Lovie Smith, co-chairman Bryan Glazer and some notable players were doused by a bucket of ice water Thursday in an effort to draw attention to ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

The challenge offers two options: make a $100 donation to the ALS Association or submit to an ice bath, then call out three more people to participate.

More than 50,000 ice challenge videos are available on YouTube.

“It didn't feel too bad,'' said Pro Bowl DT Gerald McCoy, who was drenched before teammates Lavonte David and Mike Evans joined in after practice. “It felt good to do something to raise awareness for ALS. A few months ago, I found out a close friend of mine was diagnosed with ALS. There's no way I was going to turn this down.''

Glazer was all smiles after his icy bath.

“I challenged Ronde Barber, Scott Hanson of the NFL Network and Mike Evans,'' Glazer said. “I had no idea I had been nominated until I heard about it from some other people. Then I started thinking about who I was going to challenge.''

Bust a move

The Bucs continued to tweak their roster, signing DE Larry English and waiving injured DT Jibreel Black.

English (6-foot-2, 255 pounds) originally entered the NFL as a first-round draft pick of the Chargers in 2009 out of Northern Illinois. In five seasons with San Diego, English played in 52 games with nine starts, recording 80 tackles, 11 sacks, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.

Except for a 31-28 Bucs win in 2007, neither the Dolphins nor Bucs have topped the 20-point mark in the past 15 preseason games between the teams.
