Bucs complete coaching staff with Phair, Polk

TAMPA — Buccaneers coach Lovie Smith put the finishing touches on his coaching staff on Friday when he named Mike Phair assistant defensive line coach and Carlos Polk assistant special teams coach.

Phair is a former Bucs scout (2002-04) who returns to Tampa Bay after three seasons as Chicago Bears defensive line coach. Prior to joining the Bears, Phair spent six seasons as a coach (2008-10) and scout (2005-07) with the Seattle Seahawks.

Polk comes to the Bucs after three seasons as San Diego Chargers assistant special teams coach. Prior to becoming a coach, Polk played eight seasons in the NFL from 2001-07, including seven with the Chargers.

The rest of the Bucs coaching staff looks like this: Leslie Frazier, defensive coordinator; Jeff Tedford, offensive coordinator; Kevin O’Dea, special teams coordinator; Marcus Arroyo, quarterbacks coach; Dave Borgonzi, defensive quality control; Gill Byrd, cornerbacks coach; Joe Cullen, defensive line coach; Jon Embree, tight ends coach; Andrew Hayes-Stoker, wide receivers coach; Dave Kennedy, head strength & conditioning coach; Larry Marmie, senior defensive assistant; Hardy Nickerson, linebackers coach; Mikal Smith, safeties coach; Tim Spencer, running backs coach; Ben Steele, offensive quality control; George Warhop, offensive line coach; Matt Wiegand, assistant offensive line coach.
