Rays seeking another series win; Jennings gets day off

— The goal for the Rays these days is to win as many series as they can, and a victory this afternoon against the visiting Orioles will give them wins in consecutive series for only the second time this season and the first time since they took two of three at both Boston and New York in late April and early May.

Rays righty Alex Cobb (2-4, 3.99) faces Baltimore righty Kevin Gausman (2-1, 3.71).

David DeJesus gets another start in left field, rare back-to-back starts in left for DeJesus. Manager Joe Maddon said the reason is because he wanted to give center fielder Desmond Jennings a day off.

Jerry Sands makes his second start since his call-up. He will serve as the DH. Sands could be seeing his last action as a Ray since Maddon said outfielder Brandon Guyer (left thumb fracture) is getting close to coming off the disabled list.

Maddon also said RHP Jeremy Hellickson (right elbow surgery) will make at least one more rehab start for Triple A Durham because he is struggling with his command. Hellickson’s fastball is up to 92 mph, a sign that his elbow is healthy.
