Hellickson aims to help Rays end slide

OAKLAND — The Rays will try to snap a three-game losing streak and avoid a sweep to the A’s this afternoon during the finale of this series at O.Co Coliseum.

Jeremy Hellickson makes his fourth start of the season. He will be opposed by Sonny Gray, the American League pitcher of the month in both April and July.

“We really got to bear down today and walk away with this game somehow,” Rays manager Joe Maddon said.

The Rays are 1-for-15 with runners in scoring position and have just one hit past the fifth inning during the first two games.

They are batting 1-for-22 against the A’s bullpen.

The good news: The Rays have held the A’s to one run in eight at-bats with the bases-loaded. That run, though, was the game-winner Monday.
