ST. PETERSBURG – The afternoon began with news that OF David DeJesus was placed on the disabled list with an avulsion fracture in his left hand, suffered Wednesday when DeJesus tried to check his swing during his seventh inning at-bat.

The tendon between his ring and middle finger pulled away from the bone. His hand will be in a splint for three weeks then he will be reevaluated. DeJesus said he did not have a time frame for when he would return, though he does expect to play again this season.

OF Brandon Guyer (left thumb fracture) was activated from the disabled list to replace DeJesus.
