Robinson’s Gorngpratum, Saunders Named 2014 Flag Football Winners

Published:

Senior Kylee Gorngpratum of state champion Robinson has been selected as the Florida Dairy Farmers 2014 Miss Flag Football, and head coach Joshua Saunders of the Knights has been chosen as the 2014 Flag Football Coach of the Year.

Gorngpratum, who started both ways at wide receiver and safety, did it all for the unbeaten Knights. Offensively, she was the leading scorer for a team that rolled up 662 points in 19 games (34.8 ppg), recording 79 catches for 1,090 yards and 23 touchdowns while adding 665 yards passing with 13 TDs and five interceptions as well as three rushing TDs. Defensively, she paced a stout unit that allowed just 18 points all year and shut out 16 of the Knights’ 19 opponents, recording 40 tackles and a team-high 12 interceptions.

Saunders led the Knights to a perfect 19-0 season that was capped with an exciting 7-6 win in the state championship final over two-time defending champion Seminole Ridge (18-1), ending the Hawks’ 45-game winning streak while also bringing Hillsborough County its first flag football title. In eight years as head coach, he has compiled an 82-23 record, including three straight state tournament appearances.
