Erik has provided hockey fans in Tampa with an insider view of the Tampa Bay Lightning since the 2001-02 season, covering it all from a Stanley Cup championship in 2004, holding the first overall pick in 2008 and everything in between. A native of Gloucester, Mass., Erlendsson has lived in Tampa since 1983 and been with the Tampa Tribune since 1997.

Lightning return to crowd of loyal fans

The Stanley Cup Final may be over, but the support for the Tampa Bay Lightning certainly is not.

When the players’ airplane pulled onto the tarmac on Tuesday afternoon, hundreds of fans were waiting outside the Tampa International Jet Center to welcome the team back to the Bay area.

Lightning discuss Game 1 loss in Stanley Cup Final

The message in the Tampa Bay Lightning locker room after their 2-1 Game 1 loss in the Stanley Cup Final was clear: you can’t sit back against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Alex Killorn’s goal in the first period gave the Lightning a 1-0 edge early on. However, Chicago flipped the switch in the third period when Teuvo Teravainen and Antone Vermette scored two goals within a two-minute span to give their team the win Wednesday night.

Lightning return home victorious after Game 7 win

Even at 3:15 a.m. on Saturday morning the excitement was still high.

Hundreds of Lightning fans lined up outside the Jet Center at Tampa International Airport to greet the team after an intense 2-0 victory in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals at Madison Square Garden.

Coach Cooper held four fingers high as fans chanted “four more wins”, which the Lightning will need to secure the team’s second Stanley Cup title.
