Matt Cooper dominated the field as he raced to an easy victory in the 75-lap A-Main event championship finale Saturday night to conclude the 14th annual Open-Wheel Modified Winternationals at East Bay Raceway Park.
Defending Winternationals champion Buzzy Adams finished second with Friday A-Main event winner Bart Hartman, 2012 East Bay Late Model champion Roger Crouse and NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace rounding out the top five.
Cooper started from the pole position in the 26-car field, led every lap and survived 11 caution flags on the way to his first career East Bay Winternationals win and the $5,000 first prize.
NASCAR driver David Reutimann of Zephyrhills finished 23rd after retiring from the race with a broken rear end gear.
Michael Turner and Joey Galloway won the 15-lap B-Main events that each transferred the top six finishers to the A-Main.
The four eight-lap qualifying heat races were won by Adams, Bryce Jewell, Cooper and Dale Mathison.
In the companion 25-lap Mod Lite A-Main event, James Hill bumped leader Jimmy Wills in Turn 3 on the final lap and slid by for the win. Wills finished second and Mikey Hay third.
