TAMPA -

Phillip Cobb of Apollo Beach won the 50-lap championship A-Main event Saturday night at East Bay Raceway Park to conclude the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series/World Street Stock Winternationals.

Dan Breuer, multi-time track champion Keith Nosbisch, Friday night winner Jack Nosbisch Jr., and 2009 East Bay Late Model champion Jeff Mathews rounded out the top five.

Cobb assumed the lead after Thursday winner Doug Horton blew an engine and retired after leading the first 40 laps. Cobb led the final 10 circuits to earn his first career NeSmith Series career victory and $3,000.

Cobb said of his race strategy: "I just wanted to stay close to (Horton) and then maybe I'd have a shot at him and it turned out I did. Doug had it won, but we were in the right place at the right time when he dropped out."

Calvin Cook of Pace started last in the 23-car field and prevailed in a late race side-by-side battle with Thursday winner Jimmy Sharpe to win the inaugural 50-lap World Street Stock A-Main event. He earned $3,000 for the victory. Friday winner Tim Powers, Sharpe, Kevin Darden and Del Powell completed the top five.

"Man, I've won some $1,000 to win and a couple $2,000, but nothing this big before" an elated Cook said.

With the conclusion of the 35th annual Winternationals, the focus shifts to the opening of the regular racing season Saturday night when East Bay's regular Late Model, East Bay Sprint, Street Stock, Outlaw 4, and 4 Cylinder Bomber divisions will be in action.

Racing begins at 6:30 pm. New this year will be East Bay's family pricing allowing a family of four with two children 12 or under to attend the races for just $24.

For tickets and information call (813) 677-7223 or visit the track's Web sire, eastbayracewaypark.com.
