Police are warning South Tampa resident about an increase in burglaries involving homes with open garages.
Officer Derek Lang said a suspect was recorded on video entering an open garage at 1 p.m. April 30 on the 5000 block of San Miguel Ave. Detectives said it appears to be the same person seen committing other burglaries involving high-end bycycles.
“The Tampa Police Department urges the public to be diligent in keeping their garage doors closed. Don’t tempt a thief,” Lang said in a news release.
Two weeks earlier, police said they were investigating a dozen burglaries and auto burglaries at South Tampa homes. In each case, car doors were unlocked or garage doors were open. Among the items reported stolen were a gun, cash, iPhones, bicycles, wallets, purses and fishing poles.
Anyone with information on the suspect was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477) or go online to www.crimestopperstb.com. Those who call can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
