SEMINOLE HEIGHTS – Earth Day will be celebrated in Tampa on Saturday with a free family-friendly event, EcoFest 2014.

The event, held at the Lowry Park Band Shell area, 7525 N. Boulevard, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., will focus on green living and the principles of sustainability – ecology, equity and economy.

It will feature live music, workshops, demonstrations, vendors and exhibitors from local environmental groups, green businesses, organic farms and local artists.

Earth Day began in 1970 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Today, it is celebrated in more than 192 countries. The official day is April 22, but some events are held throughout the week or weekends prior.

EcoFest 2014 is organized by Learning Gate Community School, the City of Tampa and the University of South Florida Patel College of Global Sustainability.
