Four years after it temporarily closed, the landmark Roy Jenkins swimming pool finally will get its facelift.
The Tampa City Council on Thursday voted to award a $2.25 million construction contract to Pillar Construction Group, which will repair the 93-year-old pool.
The pool has been closed since 2008.
Last year Davis Islands residents voted to give the city $500,000 from their neighborhood’s recreation fund to help repair and restore the pool. The city agreed to pay the remainder of the cost.
Construction is expected to be completed in January.
A survey was conducted last fall to determine how residents would use the pool, and results were shared with city officials during the development of the city’s 2014 operational budget.
A city council workshop on April 25 will focus on the operation of the 14 city pools.
