A sign -- if not a final pronouncement -- of the demise in popularity of videotape cassettes: The Book Nook, a small fundraising store in the lobby of the Temple Terrace Public Library, no longer accepts donations of the tapes for resale.
Book Nook volunteer Anne Green attributed the library's decision to a lack of sales.
"Nobody was buying them and they were taking up space on the shelves," said Green, who has volunteered at the Book Nook since the used media shop opened in 1998. The store, which is operated by Friends of the Temple Terrace Library, raises money for library items such as equipment and furniture.
Green said a similar decision was made about two years to stop selling donated magazines.
Donations of used books still are welcomed and the shelves are full, with titles spanning a wide range of subjects and genres.
