Members and guests of local krewes will join together for prayer and celebration to kick off the 2013 parade season.
The fifth annual Beads & Blessings Interfaith Community Prayer Breakfast, open to the public, will be at 9 a.m. on Jan 12 at the Tampa Bay History Center, 801 Old Water St.
It is chaired by Pam Milhan and Jeanne Rowe from Ye Loyal Krewe of Grace O'Malley; the committee also includes members of Bonney-Read Krewe, Buffalo Soldiers, Krewe of Venus, Columbus Celebration, Krewe of Pandora and the Rough Riders.
Rowe said the event is "to bring the krewes together for fellowship, to break bread and to pray for the safety of the parade participants and spectators."
She said about 125 people have attended each year.
This year's speaker is Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor, who said, recently, she "will try to give a message that is inspirational. "
Castor added: "The krewes, they do so much for our community."
The breakfast will also feature the color guard from the Buffalo Soldiers Woods & Wanton Chapter, and guest clergy the Rev. Tandy Hehr of St. John's Episcopal Church; the Rev. John DeBevoise of Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church; and the Rev. Vicki Walker of the Hyde Park United Methodist Church.
Tickets are $ 30 a person or $250 for a table for 10, with all tickets bought together. They can be ordered by check payable to Beads & Blessings and mailed to 10113 133rd St. N., Seminole, FL 33776.
