BAYSHORE – Members of the International Coalition at MacDill Air Force Base were honored recently at the seventh annual reception, hosted by the South Tampa Chamber of Commerce.
Paddy Moses, chairwoman of the chamber’s Military Affairs Committee, welcomed about 140 guests from the base and the community. Many represented one of the almost 60 countries in the coalition.
“We honor you as one united force to fight international terrorism,” she told them, adding their work makes the world, “better, more peaceful.”
The guests ate roasted pork, black beans and rice, plantains and desserts while visiting, listing to music and bidding on auction items at the pool area of Grand Court retirement center.
Col. Scott DeThomas, base commander, and Col. Andre Briere, vice base commander, were among the guests.
Briere, who arrived at the base recently from an assignment in Germany, took a moment to look around the sun-soaked waterfront of Tampa Bay.
“How can you beat this?”
