Five Questions With…Joshua Nelson

Joshua Nelson is among about 40 children with the Patel Conservatory Theater, ages 11 to 15, performing in “The Music Man Jr.” at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. today at the TECO Theater at the Straz Center. Performances also are scheduled for April 18, 19 and 20. Joshua, 13, of Seminole Heights, is in the featured role of Winthrop. We ask him five questions…

Q: How were you chosen to perform in “Music Man Jr.”?

Answer: I was chosen to perform in an audition at the Patel Conservatory. I sang 30 seconds of a song and filled out a form showing my acting experience and instruction, similar to a resume.

Q: What do you like about acting?

Answer: I like performing in front of an audience.

Q: What are your long-term career goals?

Answer: I want to eventually become an engineer, once I finish school.

Q: What is your favorite song or scene in “Music Man Jr.”?

Answer: My favorite song is “Gary, Indiana” (Scene 9) in which I sing a solo as Winthrop.

Q: What actors/actresses are role models for you?

Answer: My favorite actor is Johnny Depp, because I love “Pirates of the Caribbean”.
