One resident has been displaced after a fire in Hyde Park early this morning that investigators say was caused when smoking materials were improperly discarded on a porch.

Tampa firefighters, responding to a 911 call around 3:45 a.m., found the top floor of the two-story, multi-unit townhouse at 506 S. Willow Ave. on fire.

The fire originated on the exterior wooden porch and caused major fire and smoke damage to the exterior wall, attic space and roof, officials say.

The fire was extinguished in about 15 minutes and caused about $85,000 in damage, officials say.
