DAVIS ISLANDS - Beginning this week, the northbound ramp to Bayshore Boulevard, headed toward downtown, will be closed while city workers replace a water main beneath the Davis Islands bridge.
The project will take about three months to complete, and during that time the ramp will be closed for three weeklong periods, said David Vaughn, director of contract administration for the city.
The ramp is closed this week. When workers determine the dates for the next closure, the city will issue another advisory, Vaughn said.
The other ramps will remain open while the project is underway. Drivers headed toward downtown are encouraged to use Plant Avenue as a detour.
John Dunn, director of communications for Tampa General Hospital, said he doesn't expect the closures will have a big effect on the hospital. As long as nearby intersections remain clear - particularly the one at Plant Avenue and Platt Street - traffic shouldn't be a problem.
But the hospital and the city will monitor the flow during shift changes and will be ready to adapt if necessary, he said.
"We're going to keep and eye out and get feedback from our staff," Dunn said.
