Police have arrested a Brandon man in the Saturday-night shooting that happened in a wooded area near the 6200 block of Martindale Avenue.

Jonathan Xavier Torres, 19, was arrested today on a charge of attempted felony murder. He and 18-year-old Andrew Leon Richards, of 4418 W. Varn Ave. in Tampa, got into an argument, and Torres shot him five times, according to Tampa police.

Police were called to a convenience store at the corner of MacDill Avenue and Interbay Boulevard about 9:20 p.m. Acquaintances drove Richards there after the shooting and called police, according to a press release.

Richards was taken to a hospital for treatment, and he is still there this afternoon.

Torres was identified by witnesses, and officers were able to contact him and negotiate his surrender in Brandon.
