YBOR CITY The Academy Prep Center of Tampa held a head-shaving event April 12 to help fight childhood cancer and help the schoolís scholarship fund. The event was held in conjunction with the Pediatric Cancer Foundationís Cut for a Cure campaign.
Lincoln Tamayo, Academy Prep Foundation VP of operations and head of school, led the charge by shaving his head.
ďAs a school serving children in many of Tampa's neighborhoods, the ongoing crusade against pediatric cancer is a cause we are compelled to support,Ē said Tamayo.
The Academy Prep Center of Tampa, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is an urban college preparatory middle school. The schoolís a mission is to inspire students qualifying for need-based scholarships to be community leaders through a rigorous program with ongoing graduate support. It is located at 1407 East Columbus Drive.
