MacDILL AIR FORCE BASE – Love was the theme of the day when military members, military spouses and community members gathered for the second Military Heart Event.
The event, held at MacDill Air Force Base’s Seascapes Beach House, drew more than 100 guests. It was sponsored by the Bay Area Christian Women’s Connections, a division of the 75-year-old nondenominational Stonecraft Ministries.
Becky Burgue, a retired teacher, led a volunteer committee to organize the event.
“We have had events going on at bases all over country since 2007,” she told the guests. It is part of an outreach from the ministries to those in service, family members who have a loved one in service, and those who have retired from duty.
Base chaplain Capt. Meoshia Sanders said this helps to connect the community to the women and the women to each other.
“We are so grateful for them,” Sanders said. “They want to love anyone who is walking around and wearing the uniform.”
She led the guests in prayer, saying, “We need to celebrate each other – and you, Lord.”
Vocalist Sandy Lester told the guests “we struggle with the confidence. And who truly loves us is God.”
Speaker Robin Harnist shared her story of struggles to find happiness and love.
