A worker was rescued today after he fell in a trench during work on water pipes in Sun City.

About 11: 30 a.m., several Hillsborough County Fire Rescue units responded to the construction site at Cortaro Drive and State Road 674.

The male worker was inside a trench that was about 20 feet deep when he fell about five feet, according to Fire Rescue. The work at the site involved handling underground water pipes.

Heavy rescue and special operations crews used a line suspended from a ladder truck that was parked on S.R. 674 to get into the trench, and the rescue took 20 to 25 minutes, Fire Rescue said.

The worker was taken to a trauma center for evaluation. No other injuries were reported.
