Sun City Center man dies after golf cart crash

A 71-year-old man is dead after he drove his golf cart through a stop sign today and was struck by a car in Sun City Center.

About 1:29 p.m., Carl Kopischkie was driving his golf cart eastbound on Haverford Avenue when he failed to stop for the stop sign at Dell Webb Boulevard and entered the intersection, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Kopischkie was then struck by Michael Dunn who was headed south in a 2009 Chevrolet HHR on Del Webb, the sheriff’s office said. Kopischkie, of 1211 Hacienda Drive, Sun City Center, was ejected from the golf cart and was taken to South Bay Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:05 p.m.

Dunn, 65, of 506 Falmouth St., Temple Terrace, was not injured.
