A member of the Sur 13 gang has been arrested in the armed robbery of a 75-year-old man earlier this week at a laundromat in Gibsonton, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Hipoloto M. Varona, 20, of 7026 Nundy Ave., Lot 17, Gibsonton, was arrested at home Wednesday and faces charges of armed robbery, false imprisonment and battery on a person 65 or older. He is being held in the Hillsborough County Jail.

The sheriff’s office said that about 2:30 p.m. Monday a Hispanic male went to the Kween Kleen Laundromat, at 11024 U.S. Highway 41 S., approached the elderly man from behind and put a knife to his throat. The suspect then forced the man to the ground and stole money from hi before fleeing, according to the sheriff’s office.
