Penny Smith is back after almost a two-year hiatus

Penny Smith, co-owner of H&R Block franchises in Apollo Beach and Sun City Center, has returned from North Carolina, where she consulted other Block franchisees to help grow their businesses. Now that the project has ended, Smith is back in the community full-time.

Before the assignment, Smith was the president-elect in 2010 for the Ruskin Chamber of Commerce. She plans soon to resume her community service.

Chamber hosts networking event

Ruskin VFW Post 6287 will host the next SouthShore Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours event on July 11 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 5120 U.S. 41 N., Ruskin. Pearson Capital and Zipperer's Funeral Home are the sponsors.

Spa acquires new staff member

Esthetician Amy Downey recently joined the Kathie Aarons team at A Peaceful Harbor Day Spa, 1312-A ApolloBeach Blvd., Apollo Beach. Downey's services will include skin care, facials, waxing, microdermabrasion and chemical peels.

Mortgage loan originators join Fifth Third Bank

Fifth Third Bank has two new mortgage loan originators for its Riverview branches.

Elisabeth Christenson joins the team at the Riverview Banking Center. She is a member of the Greater Tampa Association of Realtors and the Tampa Bay Builders Association.

Raymond Serrano will work at the Big Bend Banking Center in Riverview. His coverage area will include Ruskin and parts of Tampa.

Both will help new home buyers with mortgage loans and provide refinancing options for current homeowners.
