RIVERVIEW -

The new Thorntons gas station and convenience store in Riverview is helping refuel customers, as well as their automobiles, for a limited time.

Since its March 28 opening, the store, 9979 Progress Blvd., has been offering free coffee and fountain beverages for everyone.

Customers can receive a complimentary drink with their FREEquency card, Thorntons’ customer rewards program for dispensed beverages. Ordinarily, FREEquency card holders purchase six drinks and receive the seventh for free.

“There is no charge for the card, and there is no limit to the number of drinks they can get,” said Jenny Drake, Thorntons marketing coordinator. “We have not set an official end date to the promotion.

“Typically, the free dispensed promotion runs about a month.”

The Riverview Thorntons is the fourth location in the Tampa Bay market. Last year, the company — founded by Kentucky native James Thornton in 1971 and headquartered in Louisville — revealed plans to open 15 to 20 Tampa Bay stores in the next three years.

The company operates more than 160 locations in Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee and Florida.

“Once the activation of new FREEquency cards starts to level off, we will end the promotion,” Drake said. “So far, we have not seen that at our Riverview location.

“The store is off to a great start.”
