The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an Apollo Beach man who died after a fight with his son early this morning, the sheriff’s office said.

At around 1:30 a.m., deputies and Hillsborough Fire Rescue were called to 6301 Flamingo Drive where David Charles Brittle Sr., 42, was pronounced dead, deputies said.

Earlier in the evening Brittle Sr. had gone out drinking at a nearby bar with his son, David Charles Brittle Jr., 23, of Lakeland, and Brittle Jr.’s girlfriend, who had traveled to Apollo Beach to visit, deputies said.

Brittle Jr. believed his girlfriend was talking to other men at the bar and got upset, left the bar, and walked to his father’s home, deputies said.

When Brittle Sr., the girlfriend and another woman returned to the home, Brittle Jr. confronted them in the yard and an argument between the father and son escalated into a physical fight, deputies said.

Brittle Sr. died, though the cause is unclear. An autopsy is pending, deputies said.

Brittle Jr. has not been charged with a crime, but the case remains under investigation and the sheriff’s office is consulting with the state attorney, deputies said.
