An 84-year-old woman was in critical condition and her 31-year-old passenger seriously injured Thursday morning in a three-vehicle crash in Riverview, deputies said.
The drivers of other two cars sustained minor injuries, deputies said.
The crash occurred at 9:47 a.m. at Big Bend Road and Lincoln Road, just east of Interstate 75, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.
A 2012 Honda Civic, driven by Arlene Smith, was heading north on Lincoln across the intersection when she drove into the path of a westbound 1998 Ford Explorer, driven by 68-year-old Thomas H. Troost, deputies said.
The Civic hit the Explorer, then was redirected into a 2006 Chevrolet Impala driven by 31-year-old Alexis S. Mack, deputies said.
Smith, of Gibsonton, was transported to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition. Her passenger, 31-year-old Daniel Cline, was also at Tampa General in serious condition with significant injuries, the sheriff’s office said.
Mack, of Riverview, was transported with minor injuries to South Bay Hospital in Sun City Center, deputies said. Troost, of Riverview, had minor injuries and elected to seek treatment later, the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office previously reported the crash took down power lines, closing westbound Big Bend for a short time. Tampa Electric Co. personnel were called to the scene.
Hillsborough County Fire Rescue said it rescued a patient from a car.
